"I'm not fighting for myself. I'm fighting for all of you" - Rochas Okorocha

The governor said this on Monday during his interaction with the IMO APC executives, LGA executives and Ward Chairmen and their secretaries. He emphasized that president Buhari does have any hand in the crisis happening in Imo APC and deserves the support of Imolites in the forthcoming elections.

Read an excerpt of the statement shared by the party publicity secretary, Onwuasoanya Jones

"The Southeast leader of the All Progressives Congress, His Excellency Owelle Rochas Okorocha has encouraged members of the Party to remain steadfast in their support for the re-election bid of President Muhammadu Buhari, whom he described as a tolerant father and thorough bred democrat who is committed to moving Nigeria forward. He absolved the President of any form of blame in incidents that led to the robbery of the electoral mandate freely given to some candidates of the Party at various levels in the State."

"In a well attended meeting with Ward Chairmen, LGA Chairmen and State Executive Committee members of  the All Progressives Congress in Imo State which held at the Nick's Banquet Hall, Government House, Owerri, today, 19th November, 2018, the governor reiterated that Nigerians will be better for it, if President Muhammadu Buhari is re-elected in 2019."

"As APC members, we are fortunate to have President Muhammadu Buhari as our presidential candidate, because he has done well in the past three and half years and Nigerians love him. We must be steadfast in our support for him. Do not allow the actions of some people within and outside the Party to water down your support for the President. The President was not consulted by those who brazenly robbed you of your mandate, he is not in support of them, and he will never be in support of them."

"We have to work hard to give the President our total support during the elections, so that he can continue the good works he has already started. We need a better Nigeria and that is what the President is committed to."

Responding to the concerns of Party members in the State over the state of things in the Party, whereby, another set of people would win primaries, and another set of names would emerge as candidates, the governor assured that he will continue to fight to ensure that the people's wishes are not thwarted by any group of people, no matter how highly placed.

"It is political corruption, it is fraudulent and rascally but I am fighting that. I am not fighting for myself but for all of you. It would have been easier for me to negotiate with those men at the top and come back home to relax, but I will not. I will fight to ensure that your mandate to our Party members is not robbed. I am fighting for the sustenance of democracy and I am fighting for the freedom of future generation of Nigerians. If I keep quiet, if all of us keep quiet, then, it won't be long before this becomes the norm in our system. Someone cannot spend his hard earned money, invest his time and ideas and win an election and some people, would sit down in an air conditioned office and fix whatever names they want as candidates. Such people so fixed will be taught the efficacy of people's power." He declared."
