In a press release this morning, the state PRO of APC said that the members of the coalition group are using the indirect method adopted by the SWC as excuses and might force the SWC to opt for the Direct primaries to prove them wrong.

"A group of paperweight politicians who claim to be members of the All Progressives Congress has recently resorted to a new gimmick of claiming to be pushing for direct primaries as a condition for them to keep quiet and stop disturbing real political contenders in the State. These men, presently led and being deceived by Senator Hope Uzodimma have sought to use the direct primaries narrative to get the sympathy of some gullible Imolites. Their aim is to make it look like the APC leadership in the State is in anyway afraid of direct primaries.
While Imo APC, through its highest decision making body, the State Executive Committee has, in obedience to the decision of the National Executive Committee, sat and unanimously adopted the direct primaries option as its preferred mode for nominating candidates for the coming election, we wish to state categorically that the APC in the State is not afraid of direct primaries and will gladly accept a challenge from this group, if they are really sincere about their preference for direct primaries.
We do not entertain the slightest fear that the direct method of primaries will give us a good opportunity to permanently clear off any doubts about the unpopularity of this group. The direct primaries method will ensure overwhelming victory for Rescue Mission compliant APC aspirants. A hitch free direct primaries method will see Rescue Mission compliant aspirants trouncing these pretenders even in their own wards, as they have been hugely unpopular and irresponsible among their people.
It may be necessary to remind the recent promoters of direct primaries, that the Imo State chapter of the Party was the first to experiment with this mode, in the present dispensation, and His Excellency Owelle Rochas Okorocha is the major promoter of direct primaries method. He sold this idea at the national level. However, the Party in the State has prevailed on him through majority decision to allow the indirect method to be adopted.
Part of the reasons, the SEC of the Party adopted the indirect primaries method is as a result of a security information suggesting that some opposition elements have concluded plans to disrupt the nomination exercise, so that the process could be inconclusive. The opposition and their agents are aware that the APC is unbeatable in Imo State, and anyone who gets the Party's ticket is as good as having won the general election. The only hope of the opposition and their agents is to see if they could successfully plant landmines which will put the Party's primaries into legal or technical hitch.
We also got information that this group of paperweight politicians are in alliance with APGA and PDP chieftains in the State to maximally cause trouble during the primaries, if we choose to go by the direct method. They will do this, by massively infiltrating the venues of the primaries with PDP and APGA members whom they will issue forged APC membership cards.
However, should there be credible evidences and assurances that these security and logistics threats will be adequately taken care of, the Party will adopt the direct primaries method in the State. As at today however, the mode of primaries adopted by the APC in Imo State is the indirect method. This might change, but hasn't changed yet."
