Cristiano Ronaldo accused of rape. Now, he responds

Cristiano Ronaldo has said through his agent, Gestifute, that he is planning to sue the German magazine, Der Spiegel for publishing accusations of an American woman claiming to have been raped by the star in 2009.

Ronaldo's lawyer Christian Schertz said in a statement that the report was 'an inadmissible reporting of suspicions in the area of privacy', and that he would seek legal redress for his client from the magazine.

The statement was sent to Reuters by Ronaldo's agent Gestifute in response to a request for comment on the Der Spiegel story. 

The magazine said the rape allegedly took place in June 2009 in a hotel room in Las Vegas, according to Leslie Mark Stovall, lawyer for the alleged victim, Kathryn Mayorga.

Ronaldo and Mayorga then reached an out-of-court agreement, according to Stovall as reported in the magazine. It said, according to Stovall, that she had pledged never to speak of the accusation again and Ronaldo paid her $375,000.

'Kathryn was sexually assaulted in June 2009 by an individual named Cristiano Ronaldo,' Mayorga's lawyer, Leslie Mark Stovall, said in a video published online by Der Spiegel.

Her lawyer told Der Spiegel, however, that he had filed a civil complaint seeking to declare the non-disclosure agreement void.

'The purpose of this lawsuit is to hold Cristiano Ronaldo responsible within a civil court of law for the injuries he has caused Kathryn Mayorga and the consequences of those injuries,' Stovall told Der Spiegel.

On Friday, Kathryn Mayorga, 34, was unveiled as the woman who has accused Ronaldo of sexually assaulting her in a Las Vegas hotel room. The Juventus star was on holiday in Sin City with his cousin and brother-in-law when he met the part-time model.

In a statement issued by Ronaldo's lawyers, Schertz Bergmann Rechtsanwälte, the player denied Mayorga’s rape claim saying they would sue for “compensation for moral damages”.

His solicitor, Professor Dr Christian Schertz said: “The reporting in SPIEGEL is blatantly illegal. It violates the personal rights of our client Cristiano Ronaldo in an exceptionally serious way.

“This is an inadmissible reporting of suspicions in the area of privacy. It would therefore already be unlawful to reproduce this reporting.

“We have been instructed to immediately assert all existing claims under press law against SPIEGEL, in particular, compensation for moral damages in an amount corresponding to the gravity of the infringement, which is probably one of the most serious violations of personal rights in recent years.”

Counsellor George Luttrodt is well known for his controversial statements. Just recently he made a statement advising men who impregnate other women outside their marriages to keep the results of their adultery a secret.

A Dubai-based shoemaker named Jada Dubai unveiled the shoes at the Burj Al Arab hotel. “Dubai is the city of millionaires and billionaires… we see it as a potential market, along with the entire (Gulf) region,” said Hemant Karamchandani, chief executive of Passion Jewelers, which supplied the jewels.

The shoe took about 9 months to create, according to the maker of the shoe.

Few days after the NIGERIA AIR project was suspended, the Federal government has revealed the reason behind the decision.

According to Federal Government, Nigeria Air was suspended due to investor apathy. Nigeria’s Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, who addressed journalists on Monday at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport in Lagos, said investors who were supposed to partner with the government on the project were no longer interested.

He further said:-

    “If the understanding of government at the beginning was that the project might be self-financing or the project would be financed by investors and you think that such a project can no longer be sponsored by investors, either because they are not forthcoming or such venture can no longer be viable, the government is at the discretion to take a decision,” Lai Mohammed said during the official opening of an in-flight catering facility, the LSG Sky Chefs.

    “The position of government in business is to provide the enabling environment and it is not to become the sole source of finance or funding and in addition, there is much more than funding in trying to get our national carrier. So, the Federal Government thinks this thing should be stepped down now until we get a better funding structure.”

Father honours her daughter with a 5ft tall iPhone shaped tombstone

A local headstone maker in Russia has come across a very surprising tombstone made on the grave of one 25-year-old Rita Shameeva  who was buried at a graveyard in the oil-rich Russian city of Ufa after her death in January 2016

Rita's father decided to honour her with a 5ft high tombstone made from basalt in the shape of her favourite black iPhone with her picture on display. The monument, which also features a mocked up Quick Response Code, towers above other gravestones in part of Yuzhnoye cemetery.

The local headstone maker Ilgam Galliulin said he was not responsible for its design.

'My father and I make monuments to order,' he said. 'But I saw this unusual one for the first time last week.'

Mourner Nikolay Yevdokimov told newspaper ProUral: 'I thought I was having hallucinations. How could an American smartphone suddenly appear at our cemetery? And such a huge one.

'I came closer and was surprised. I've seen many gravestones, but to make one in the form of iPhone - this is the first time, to be honest.

'It was made for a young woman from black basalt most likely. Very unusual.'

Senator Iyiola Omisore has finally opened up on who he wants Osun people to vote tomorrow

The leadership of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) and All Progressives Congress (APC), have both made tremendous effort to get the Social Democratic Party (SDP) governorship candidate in Osun State, Senator Iyiola Omisore, on their side. However, he decided to make it clear today on whose side he is on. He said that Osun people should go and vote for the candidate that believes in what the SDP believes and that he would not coarse them into voting anyone out of selfish gains.

In a statement he released today and signed by his media aide, Jide Fakorede said "Osun state has always been a stellar example of democracy where the people have consistently and freely expressed their franchise to determine who governs them. This should remain so. Osun people have shown that it is not business as usual. It is a positive deviation from what was hitherto the norm".

I am telling my people that they should go with any political party that believes in what we in the SDP stand for; good governance, social justice and accountability. I have already detailed how we planned to restore Osun to the path of good governance through the five thematic pillars in the  manifesto I shared  during the electioneering. I will not negotiate for personal gains and abandon my people.

"My alliance is with the people of Osun state irrespective of the political party they belong. I want my people to be treated with the dignity they deserve. I desire that they have a government that will be accountable to them. I want them to experience the good governance the founding fathers of this state envisaged. I have told the parties that have solicited for my support to approach the electorates and ask for their mandate as I have assured them that I will not coerce them for political or social power. It is because I have kept my promise that has made me enjoyed their unalloyed support all these years.

As highlighted in SDP manifestos, the five thematic pillars the SDP had hoped to implement to improve governance, eliminate financial reckless and reposition the economy of Osun state include: Economic management and accountability; Professionalism and performance; Equity in access to service; Local content and innovation and Security.  To this end, he has said to all Nigerians that this is the centre point of his campaign and "democracy we both fought for and believe in. It is the right and democratic freedom of people to choose by their own free will. Their votes should not be coerced by money, vote buying, intimidation in form of militarisation, political and social power.   

"Their voices of demand for good governance, accountability and human dignity should continue to be heard as well as salaries paid. All these are what I stand for and which the SDP had promised the people all through our electioneering campaigns.  They are still paramount to me as we collectively chart the way forward for the governorship elections rerun in Osun state.

Senator Omisore assured his followers and admirers that he will not abandon his campaign promises even as he engaged all stakeholders on the way forward to ensure the progress of Osun state is achieved.

Breaking: IMO State Government reacts to the impeachment judgement of Eze Madumere

The IMO State Government has finally reacted to the Judgement delivered yesterday, in favour of the embattled Deputy Governor, EZE Madumere, at the Federal High Court in Owerri.
Below is the press release signed and shared by the Chief Press Secretary this afternoon.

GOVERNMENT OF IMO STATE
PRESS RELEASE

SUBJECT: THE COURT JUDGEMENT OVER THE IMPEACHMENT OF PRINCE EZE MADUMERE

(1)         The Judgement on the impeachment of Prince Eze Madumere was delivered on Tuesday, September 25, 2018.

(2)         We had withheld reaction to that Judgement because we needed to read it and acquaint ourselves with the crux of the Judgement.

(3)         We have read it, and the crux of the Judgement delivered by Hon Justice B.C. Iheka is that the Chief Judge of the State Constituted the seven – man investigation panel outside the 7 days approved by Law.

(4)         We hold nothing against the trial Judge and we shall continue to hold the Judge and the Judiciary in general in high esteem.

(5)         We also want to inform the general public that all the relevant parties in the matter have filed their appeals against the Judgement and the motion for stay of execution has also been filed.

(6)         We have also read the Press Statement issued and signed by Prince Madumere himself, which he issued and signed as Deputy – Governor few minutes after the Judgement.

(7)         The fact remains that Prince Madumere is confused. He does not know what he wants. He signed the statement as Deputy – Governor and at the same time parading himself as Governorship Aspirant on the platform of APC and of course, about 48hours to the Party’s Primary for the governorship.

(8)         In his statement, he thanked two other Governorship Aspirants in the State on the platforms of APGA and PDP, Chief Ikedi Ohakim and Chief Emeka Ihedioha for their contributions to his legal victory.

(9)         Prince Eze Madumere had thanked Chief Ohakim and Chief Ihedioha whose supports for him were targeted at Governor Okorocha and APC in the State, but heavily insulted the man who took him up from the floor where he was to the level he is today.

(10)   In his statement, he said that his offence is that he stood by the people for Justice. And you may ask Prince Madumere, at what point did he become an apostle of Justice and over what? He was Chief of Staff and later Deputy Governor. Which means from May 2011 to the time he was impeached about two months ago, he was the second in Command in the government. And he is still struggling to remain as Deputy Governor and also aspiring to be governor at the same time. Men like Prince Madumere are bitter or ugly case-studies.

(11)   And we want to state clearly that the only offence Governor Okorocha committed against Madumere he had carried on his back like a baby for decades and made him somebody is that he did not anoint him as his successor. And you now ask whether it is compulsory that every Deputy Governor must succeed his boss as governor. And if the answer is NO, then Madumere should count his teeth with his tongue.
